Centrale Fies Art work Space is an independent centre for residencies and the production of contemporary performing arts, located within a hydroelectric centre that dates from the early 1900s, still partially active, owned by Hydro Dolomiti Energia.
The project, launched in 1999 by Barbara Boninsegna and Dino Sommadossi with the Cooperativa il Gaviale on the experience of
drodesera festival (born in 1980), is a proper cultural enterprise. Our activities are characterized by a hybrid model of sustainability, with public and private contributions.

Centrale Fies is the first Italian
example of regeneration of an industrial archaeology site for artistic and cultural purposes. It is a place where to experiment practices, production ways and processes connected to artistic residencies (also family friendly!) and to performing arts.
Home of Drodesera, a festival of performing arts from both theatre and visual art fields, Centrale Fies is dedicated year-round to research: training the critical gaze on the contemporary and experimenting with new artistic forms and processes, from a perspective that is open to every discipline, theme and field of study. In the art work space there is also
Fies Core, a cultural hub born to connects the research inside Centrale Fies to other fields like agriculture, tourism, design and education. Centrale Fies contributes in this way to the creation of lateral thought and cultural biodiversity, with firm faith in the intrinsic political role of the arts and its indomitable capacity to unfold new visions. Centrale Fies contributes in this way to the creation of lateral thought and cultural biodiversity, with firm faith in the intrinsic political role of the arts and its indomitable capacity to unfold new visions.

Centrale Fies is visited every year by dozens of artists and creatives from all over the world, who we support in every aspect: including curation and production (through residencies, availability of equipped rooms and technical assistance, and co-working spaces) and practical support (assistance in development, organization, fundraising, administrative support, production, and national and international networking). By virtue of our cross-sector vocation, we attract and contribute to the growth of entrepreneurial realities and hybrid projects with a strong experimental character.

Over the course of diverse decades of activities, we have consolidated relationships with numerous centres of artistic production and festivals of performing arts in Europe and worldwide, with whom we curate multi-year projects. In particular, we work with the European network APAP (from 2011) and FIT (from 2015), and we currently have more than 150 productions and co-productions that have contributed to creating and growing a new generation of artists, creatives, and technical specialists. We have fine-tuned artistic practices like dance and architecture, dance theatre, and civil theatre, deepening and broadening the notion of performance and experimentation of transdisciplinary practices, in which art becomes a point of passage toward design, architecture, the reinterpretation of the landscape, tourism and other cultural, economic and productive spheres.

The activities of Centrale Fies are supported by Hydro Dolomiti Energia, the Autonomous Province of Trento, Dro Municipality, Autonomous Region of Trentino - Alto Adige / Südtirol, the Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities, Cassa Rurale Alto Garda, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Trento e Rovereto, APAP Advancing Performing Art Project, and Comunità Europea/Programma Cultura.
