Opera Futura Laboratori per un Nuovo Teatro Musicale è un progetto ideato e coordinato is a project conceived and coordinated by Giordano Montecchi
*electronic musical instrument with a big floor-like keyboard practicable by one or more musicians
NORTH is a cardinal point, a wind, an allusive, mysterious place, a concert hall with a damaged floor, where a plot or a performance is taking place; North starts from the fundamental request that Dorothy, the main character, makes to the wizard: to lose control.
OZ is similar to a shadow that appears from Dorothy’s face.
The PEDONIUM, musical floor where she walk on, is an imaginary instrument strictly connected with her interior world, with the infernal world of the dream present in North. Besides being a stage, besides being a potential dramatic element of the story, the pedonium is an instrument that creates sound images and that the main character will play until she reaches the spasmodic, panic coincidence of her presence with the light, the sound and the temperature of that wind.

West is the outermost cardinal point in the story of the Wizard of Oz. The audience will be “imprisoned” together with Dorothy by a strange kind of spell, a trap of language which at times stops the faculty to express an opinion, the possibility to make a choice,
to say yes or no to the things that will be proposed here.
The work, centered on the techniques of subtle manipulation of the advertising language, will intersect mythical themes to themes connected to contemporaneity, chronicle and the great emblems of the West.
Here the audience are consumers, the objects of continuous stimuli and the subtle plot of a concealed persuasion unceasingly weaved against them, the prisoners and, at the very same time, the ones capable of unhinging the cage in which they were dropped: carefully going down into the deep well where the trick of the “witch”, the sophisticated techniques of mass media communication precipitate, means undertaking the ascent and, at the very same time, taking the risk of not coming back.
West will be a sort of contradictory parable, a metaphor of contemporary imagery and its drifts, of the power that images exercise on us.
In the background the West and its symbols, and the tortured and yet incredibly “normal” body of our society.

The texts of the confessions and the interviews have been composed with the direct contribution of the persons concerned: it is biographic material variously contaminated with literary or chronicle ones.
With thanks to the actors, the interpreters and all the interviewed persons for having put at our disposal their thoughts and words.
EMERALD CITY is the mirage city, a utopia, the emerald capital of the invented and unexisting reign that artists find themselves to govern once a traveller has crossed the threshold of their bristling and attractive worlds.
THE WIZARD OF OZ, takes the appearance of a contemporary artwork, the effigy of the dictator-actor: “Him”. Thus, under the appearance of this artwork, the Wizard keeps listening to the mutable voice of mankind, kneeling in his own private study-laboratory. Behind him there's a wall made of loud-speakers, cones of various shapes and measures from which words of men and women come out: the confessions-prayers that the whole world addresses to Him. Some ask for a heart, others for a brain, others for the nerve: a babelic human symphony.
