FF1 is a project of Centrale Fies, with the mission to sustain the new generations working in the field of research of the contemporary arts, through a unique, creative strategy of communication and promotion of performing arts.
Within FF1 the groups have the possibility to develop their artistic projects over the course of three years, having at their disposition the rooms of the Centrale Fies with ad hoc services capable of responding to their needs which, day after day, arise and change, with the possibility of collaboration and direct (and indirect) relationships amongst themselves without ever losing their own identities or the personal mood of their research.
At its beginning the project foresaw the presence of five artistic realities with completely diverse matrices and expressions: Dewey Dell, Francesca Grilli, Pathosformel, Teatro Sotterraneo and Sonia Brunelli (this last one, to this day, has branched off from FF1 under the name Barokthegreat).
As for the productive aspect, Chiara Fava and Laura Marinelli, who replaced Cinzia Maroni, along with Virgina Sommadossi, follow the production of their process, from the idea to the final product, passing through the administration and the promotion.
THE 7 FOUNDING POINTS (some more and some less) OF FF1
1. a crew of emerging realities chosen in light of the new contemporary Italian theatre.
2. transparent financing which is distributed between the groups according to the objective needs the projects entail in their development.
3. a structure of service in support of the individual groups which can be freed from administrative, legal and fiscal tasks.
4. continuous confrontation with the organization and with the technicians with proven experience who are capable of offering their competence in the lighting and set design realms.
5. creative residencies not necessarily bound to wrapping up a finished product, untied to debuting on the premises, for nourishing and protecting the course of studio work with respect to research.
6. the opportunity to present the works according to the artists' needs under studio, performance or creative moment format, within situations protected by the structure or by the network connected to it.
7. a model for spreading publicity with the creation of promotional materials (images, dvds, brochures, etc), with special protection at the moment for communication with press bodies and professionals.
THE DONUT
We asked ourselves how we could communicate a complex reality such as that of the factory as efficiently as possible: it called for something that made recognizable the diversity of an all new distributive and productive network...
We tried to insert within an artistic project and turned out, to the development of the new generation, an element of impact that is decidedly advertising: a logo.
The FF1 logo was thought up by visual designer Rosario Fontanella to communicate through the quickness of one glance one of the peculiarities of the project:
5 realities + 1, with completely different identities but all under the same concept, which has behind it a known and appreciated reality as the production center Centrale Fies.
Each group has a different and recognizable donut, solely to underline the diversity of each company or artist who has been chosen to take part in the Fies Factory One project.
The idea to use a logo was born from the desire to make instantly recognizable the new form of production, sales and distribution of this innovative project.
The claim “not every donut succeeds with the hole” refers to the importance that is given to the artist's process rather than the final product.
The image chosen has been created in order to be easily memorizable, in such a way that every worker, journalist, theatre, season or public can connect the total FF1 project to the quality which each individual group or artists carries.
Strongly believing in all of the works of the companies and the individual artists, and that each work reinforces in quality and importance even that of the others, also in the total and highly visible difference of the nature of each component, the project needs an immediately recognizable logo of the artists selected and supported by FF1.
To disrupt the personal aesthetic of each group as little as possible, the logo has been designed both in colors and in brown/white and black/white and, furthermore, can be positioned anywhere and in any dimension according to the material.
Each company and artist retains absolute liberty and autonomy to keep their own personal modality for the promotion of their shows and performances (newsletters, facebook, myspace, private mailing lists, etc). Alongside the work of each individual group, FF1 develops a parallel promotion of the entire project carried out by Fies Project, which utilizes the created logo, reinforcing the communication and the idea.
Fies Factory One was born as a real tool for the development of live art: new strategies where the meeting is a continuous reciprocal stimulus, where the logic of the market does not suffocate the creative process, where the final product can take on various forms. Where even the doughnuts without a hole turn out fine.
Centrale Fies starts once again with the Fies Factory One project, fishing from the energies of the structure, mixing those liquid and powerful of the groups and individuals, pouring them back into the work of Fies Project to explode and then to create a crew formed by different subjects in a three-year course that imagines a laboratory in which the creative are protected in their artistic freedoms.
